Recensione Mark Twain I saggi di Twain
La raccolta dei saggi di Twain costituisce un atto di denuncia impietoso nei confronti del colonialismo americano -p.e.quello nelle Filippine- e di quello europeo -p.e.il monologo di re Leopoldo relativo al genocidio attuato in Congo.Atto di denuncia che, proprio perche' articolato con un tono ironico e sarcastico, consente di compendere chiaramente le conseguenze devastanti dell'imperialismo-ennesima variante della brama di volonta' di potenza dell'uomo- , che induce l'autore a condannare il patriottismo-che consolida il conformismo e trasforma l'omicidio di massa in atto di eroismo-,la stampa di regime che manipola l'informazione,la religione che diviene uno strumento di dominio dell'anima contiguo a quello politico-militare,l'addestramento che rende amorfe le coscienze e annulla la ragion critica e l'individualita',la guerra la cui logica cancella ogni limite morale e giuridico, la retorica di regime che spaccia genocidi per brillanti vittorie militari ed infine gli atti di eroismo compiuti nelle guerre che altro non sono che omicidi di massa attuati per ossequio al potere di turno.
