Central Highland REDLEGS is a collection of personal accounts of young U.S. Army Field Artillery Soldiers assigned to the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division in the Vietnam Central Highlands near the Tri-Border area of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. It was the scene of some of the heaviest fighting in the Vietnam War against the North Vietnamese Army infiltrating from North Vietnam using the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail. In November 1967 North Vietnamese Army forces launched a massive attack against U.S. Army units around an air strip at Dak To, near the Tri-Border area. After nearly one month of bloody fighting with heavy casualties on both sides, the North Vietnamese Army failed to dislodge the U.S. forces and retreated back to the sanctuary of Cambodia and Laos. Soon thereafter, in late January 1968 the North Vietnamese Army attacked again in the same area as part of the Vietnam wide TET Offensive. The enemy's strategic goal of defeating the U.S. forces at Dak To and dividing South Vietnam in half was blocked by dogged fighting by U.S. Infantry Soldiers supported around the clock by skillful U.
